The Asia Pacific Banks Alliance (APBA) is a project that the Mekong Club coordinates in collaboration with Thomson Reuters Foundation. This collective of financial institutions is dedicated to combatting modern slavery through harnessing the power of the finance world. The APBA has produced a set of modern slavery indicators and recommendations for financial service providers on how to combat this crime throughout a bank’s operations. These indicators relate to behavioural, demographic, and transactional red flags, within the context of industry and country risk factors. We work with financial institutions to incorporate these into their processes and investigations.

The APBA engages with local financial institutions, law enforcement, NGOs, and governments. We develop and test typologies to identify suspicious money flows, learn and share best practice, and ultimately make modern slavery unprofitable for the criminals involved.
